There has been a lot of hype around Olive and June and if you know the in and out of the beauty and cosmetics world, you will know that it doesn’t always mean a good thing. Whenever a new product comes out especially one that isn’t being pushed by a company, a lot of people trying to show support to the brand would do all they can to give the brand some publicity but that’s not what’s happening with Olive and June.
If you’re all about self-care and getting your nails done at home rather than the salon so you can save a few bucks or polish them to your style, Olive and June is a nice brand to consider, or at least, that’s why Reddit users think.
Olive and June Review – Reddit Users’ Opinions
In this article, we’ve created a review based on comments from Reddit users about what you should expect from Olive and June and its nail polish products. We have also quoted some of the most detailed and helpful reviews directly from Reddit.
What is Olive and June?
Olive and June is a millennial pink-festooned nail brand founded in 2013 in Beverly Hills, California by Sarah Gibson, whose obsession with manicure led her to open her own nail salon and a line of products for at-home use. The brand now has an extensive line of polish, tool, and care for mani and pedi care that brings your dreams to life.
The nail polish is entirely vegan, cruelty-free and 7 free which means you wouldn’t have to worry about the seven harsh chemicals (dibutyl phthalate, formaldehyde, toluene, formaldehyde resin, ethyl tosylamide, camphor, and xylene) normally found in skincare products.
Olive & June Review
The Olive & June box comes with everything you would need to get your mani and pedi all done. There are 3 different systems available with different products as well as price values. Regardless of the system you go for, you should expect the following products.
The Poppy – This is the signature polish bottle handle of the brand designed to make painting your nails easier and faster while giving more precision for even and steady strokes. Using the poppy requires a learning curve. You might make a mess of things the first time you use it but luckily, there are many short tutorials on the brand’s website on how to use the poppy, however, it would still take a while to get used to since it is not a regular bottle topper
Nourishing Cuticle Serum – The cuticle serum is designed for comfort so your cuticles look refreshed and hydrated. It is also mess-free and fast drying so you won’t have any issues while making use of them. The addition of avocado and jojoba oil improves the soothing effect of the serum.
Clean-Up Brush – While you would want to take all the care in the world while applying nail polish, you could find yourself making mistakes, leaving polish outside of the nail. The clean-up brush helps to deal with this. It comes in a slender tube to keep the bristles from bending though the bristles would still bend when used.
Top Coat – This will keep your manicure looking fresh and help it last longer. It is a big plus for any at-home mani to maintain that glossy look. According to the instructions, this should have to be applied every 2 to 3 days for the best effects.
Flat-edge Nail Clippers – Being firm believers in the straight edge trim, Olive & June adds these signature clippers to its packages. They suggest you cut 90% and file 10% which is a good suggestion as it helps to make for a classy look. The straight edge clippers allow you to get stylish and shape your nails as you want before you smooth the edges with the file.
Positive Reddit Reviews
[su_quote cite=”rxdf182″]Huge fan of Olive and June now. I tried using an OPI color I had and I couldn’t deal with the formula.
This is 2 coats of “Honest and True” from the Summer 2020 kit and the Glisten and Glow quick dry topcoat. [/su_quote]
[su_quote cite=”jessrunsforpie”]I just discovered this company and have been doing their “bootcamp” on Instagram (you can find them on their IG TV). I am so impressed with both the tools and the techniques. I’m a fan already and understand the cult like following!! I’ve never been able to do my nails and now after just 3 days of practicing I feel like I won’t need a salon anymore! Only wish I had discovered it earlier in the pandemic. [/su_quote]
[su_quote cite=”mermaidinvestigator”]Their polishes are pretty solid and the squishy self-polish tool is super helpful for folks with manual accessibility issues (like arthritis, etc) and you can buy from them directly or at Target. I don’t think they’re an MLM. [/su_quote]
Critical Reddit Reviews
[su_quote cite=”Hrose572″]One reason the brand gets hate is that they react really poorly to criticism from swatchers. If you ever watch Kelli Marissa, she did a swatch and review video of some of their polishes a few months ago. The review was mostly positive but she did have some constructive criticism about the formula. Olive and June reacted to this by unfollowing her, which isn’t the worst thing to do but was pretty unprofessional. If you google Kelli Marissa + Olive and June you can find more details about it. [/su_quote]
[su_quote cite=”Slightlyunlucky”]I wish the shipping wasn’t so damn expensive! $35CAD shipping just to buy a set is ridiculous. [/su_quote]
[su_quote cite=”stickynovella”]SE by Olive and June and Essie Gel Couture top coat. Love the color of this polish, but wish I was more impressed with the polish itself. This is with three coats, and I still felt like it was a little uneven/splotchy. I’ve heard a ton of good things about this brand so I’m a little disappointed. Has anyone else experienced this?
